greetings to our prospective residents

Dear Prospective NK's!

I am looking forward to welcoming you to our house in 2021. Having gone through a rough 2020, I can’t hold back my excitement when I think about the prospect of welcoming each and every one of you to the eNkanyini Family. As you will come to realise, our house is the most welcoming residence in Stellenbosch University. Seriously, I am not joking 😉. It is on this background that I can assure you that we are a true representation of a “home away of home”.

eNkanyini prides itself in being one of the few, if not the only residence at the University that provides newcomers with single rooms. Our residence is made up of subsections called pods. Eight people stay in a pod and share a kitchen, and two showers. This dynamic allows for seniors and newcomers to live in the same space – allowing for better social integration. Another statistic we pride ourselves in – being a truly integrated res where seniors and newcomers live together in the same space!

As the House Committee, we are keenly awaiting your arrival.

The time has come. (Insert your favourite hype song)

My name is Glen and I’ll be a 4th year MBChB student that always has time for a coffee with people and is always keen for a lekker trip to the beach. I am the member of the HK with the best job… looking after the residents' wellbeing and supporting the HK and Prim! And, along with some of my best friends… we’ll make sure that all the newcomers feel as at home as we do at eNkanyini.

Yup, that’s right folks, my entire job description is to be there for you! I’ll be your first point of call and the first open door if you need something, or like I said… just want some coffee. ðŸ˜‰

I’m sitting here writing this and I am bursting with excitement. It wasn’t that long ago that I was in your position. I remember getting that phone call to say that I was accepted and it’s a moment and a feeling I will never forget. It feels like it was yesterday…

With that being said, I know exactly how you must be feeling now! It’s a strange conglomeration of emotions ranging from an air of apprehension to cautious optimism to absolute elation and the sudden urge to crack the biggest smile in public and risk looking like an absolute chop…

If I could have a one-on-one chat with each of you before you arrive, this is what I would tell you:

There is so much to look forward to and such incredible things coming your way very soon. It’s going to be a jump. For some of you a bigger jump than for others… but a jump none the less. However, if there was one thing that I could not be more certain of, is that you’ve got one of the nicest groups of people I have ever met waiting with open arms to see to it that you land safely on the other side.

All you need to do is come with an open mind, come hungry to make memories and come ready to start one of the best chapters in your story.

You’ll hear it a lot (that must mean it must be true), but you really do find that the people here become your second family and coming from far away myself, I know how valuable that really is. I became the Vice-Primarius because I want this incredible place to feel like a home away from home for each of you.

AND SUDDENLY YOU JUST KNOW IT’S TIME TO START SOMETHING NEW AND TO TRUST IN THE MAGIC OF BEGINNINGS.

Until we finally meet, please know that if you want to know anything or even just say “Hi” you’re more than welcome to shoot me a message.

Hello Prospective NKs!
Welcome and thank you for visiting our webpage. Here you will find all the information you need on ‘All Things eNkanyini’. We are all looking forward to meeting you and welcoming you into our family.
Welcoming is such an exciting time each year during which newcomers from many different walks of life come together and are introduced to a new chapter in their lives in this extraordinary place that is university. All the activities planned for this amazing week will leave you super excited for what the future holds. It is also here where you will meet so many incredible people and make memories sharing in these new experiences.
eNkanyini invites you to join our close-knit community, your new home away from home. We welcome you into this stronghold that promotes diversity, camaraderie and growth, hoping that you will end up feeling proud to be an NK.
This past year we have all been faced with very difficult changes and challenges, realizing once again how fragile our health and safety can be. We, as NKs, acknowledge that you will be moving into this new space during such a time of uncertainty and that that can be quite daunting but rest assured we will do everything in our power to welcome you into an environment that is cautious and safe but great fun as well.
Good luck for the last stretch of this academic year. We wish you all the best for the upcoming exams and look forward to meeting you soon.
Stay safe!
